    Nokia's Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) and NEC Japan have begun construction of the Japan-Guam-Australia (JGA) submarine cable system
    .

    JGA is being built by a consortium of companies, including the JGA South (JGA-S) path
    between Sydney, Australia and Piti, Guam.
    The consortium includes AARNet, Google and RTI-C
    .

    In addition, JGA North (JGA-N), a path between the main city of Minami Japan and Piti, Guam, is a private cable
    with RTI-C as the sole purchaser.
    The landing station completed by Guam Telecom will enable the interconnection
    of JGA-N and JGA-S.

    The 9,500-kilometer-long submarine cable system will have a design capacity of more than 36 Tbps and is expected to be completed
    in the fourth quarter of 2019.

    Philippe Piron, President of ASN, said: "We are honored to partner with RTI, AARNet and Google on the JGA project

    The project will build on ASN's advanced technology to further provide high-capacity connectivity
    in and across the Asia-Pacific region.

    Toru Kawauchi, General Manager of NEC's Subsea Networks Division, added: "We are honored to have once again been selected by RTI-C for their third submarine cable
