Original title: Daily drinking water is important Experts say replacing water with beverages increases the risk of childhood obesity
Water is an important nutrient to maintain the physical and cognitive function of the human body. However, many children now drink very much and seldom drink water. Children who use sugary drinks such as fruit juices and sodas instead of water consume twice as many calories, increasing their risk of obesity, according to a recent report in the French health magazine TOPSANTE.
researchers at Pennsylvania State University analyzed data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Survey 2011-2015-2016 and surveyed about 8,400 children between the ages of 2 and 19 about their daily drinking water, sugary drinks, energy drinks and sweetened coffee,
reported. The results showed that children who used sugary drinks instead of water consumed an average of 200 calories a day, while children who drank regularly consumed water consumed an average of 100 calories a day. The researchers say that consuming an extra 3,500 calories a month (i.e. 100 calories a day) can increase a child's weight by 0.5 kilograms.
asher Rosinger, author of the study, said current dietary guidelines recommend that daily sugar intake should not exceed 10 per cent of total calorie intake. In addition, regular sugary drinks can cause many health problems, such as tooth decay and type 2 diabetes. (Li Yaru Zhao Yihui)
