Neoadjuvant radiotherapy is the standard of care for locally advanced low- to mid-rectal tumors

This was a retrospective orientation matching study conducted in the colorectal department of a tertiary oncology centre in India that included a total of 173 patients

The results of the study showed that in all patients, 52% of MRI showed positive circumcision margins, 57% of patients had low rectal tumor location, and 20% had stage T4 tumors

This study confirmed that short-course radiotherapy + delayed surgery after chemotherapy resulted in decreased T and tumor regression scores compared with long-course chemoradiotherapy, but the pathological periphery, distal resection margin, lymph node rate, and perioperative incidence were similar
