Complete mesangial resection (CME) has been the standard surgical modality for right-sided colon cancer since 2008, but some hospitals in Denmark believe that there is insufficient evidence on CME and that CME may be associated with a higher risk of complications, and a population-based study shows that CME has a significant impact on the risk of recurrence, so while complete mesenterectomy has been shown to have a good effect on the risk of recurrence of right-sided colon cancer, it is unclear whether this is caused
solely by a reduced risk of local recurrence 。 Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the extent
to which complete mesenterectomy affects the risk of local recurrence.
This study was a post-mortem analysis
of data from population-based cohorts.
A total of 807 patients were enrolled in this study, of whom 186 underwent complete mesenterectomy and 621 underwent routine resection
.
This study confirms that the risk
of recurrence after routine resection may be underestimated due to the use of inappropriate modalities to diagnose local relapses in some patients and the short duration of patients in this group.
