China Coatings Online News:
concrete sealants are generally used to protect concrete surfaces from water and salt. Acrylic sealants block water absorption by blocking small holes in concrete. Water penetrates and freezes into the concrete through an unsealed surface, causing the concrete to crack, or to bring dissolved salts to the concrete surface, where it evaporates and deposits on the surface, forming what is called weathering. At this
, after weathering,
formed white scale crystallization left on the surface, destroying the appearance of concrete.
addition to providing protection against concrete formation, sealants provide a "wet light" effect to improve the appearance of concrete. Wet light is when the surface is wet, so that the color deepens. Although this is not a common requirement, it is possible to increase the gloss of the surface. Solvent-based acrylic seals give the concrete surface a "wet and bright" appearance, of course, at the expense of high
VOC
content, typically
VOC
up to
350 g/L
or higher. Currently, common water-based "wet bright" sealants contain
VOC
from
100
to
250 g/L
, but do not have the same appearance as solvent-based sealants.
HydroPLIOLITE WL
is a modified acrylic co-property that gives concrete appearance and protection comparable to solvent-based sealants to make sealants as low as
VOC
as low as
50 g/L
.
HydroPLIOLITE WL
uses our unique emulsified bonding system process (
EBS
)
. The process can produce water-based co-esters similar to solvent-based co-property effects.
the
of the EBS droplet co-polymer chain is much lower than that of latex particles, so that the co-cluster chain can better penetrate the concrete surface, forming excellent properties.

paint on the cement bricks and, after drying overnight, evaluate the wet and bright appearance. For ease of comparison, the lower part of
brick is
1/4 place. As can be seen from figure
1
, the
HydroPLIOLITE WL
formulation looks very similar to a commercially available solvent-based sealant, both of which deepen the color of the bricks and increase the surface brightness. Commercially available water-powered sealants do deepen the color of bricks, but they are much lighter than other sealants and have limited brightness improvements.
has now achieved its first goal of hydration sealants with a wet, shiny effect similar to solvent-based sealants, while strictly controlling the
VoC
content. Although appearance is important, it is not the only feature that concrete sealants need to be concerned about. It is important for concrete sealants to
seep into concrete and achieve bonding and protective surfaces. In order to measure the level of paint seeping into concrete, the following test method was developed, i.e. according to the formula of Table 3, a concrete test piece coated with 4 mils thick was prepared and covered with moisture to the glass panel for 24 hours of drying. The concrete test piece is then coated with a thick 4 mil wet coating to dry it. To determine the degree of penetration, look at the back of the glass panel and see if the coating passes through the concrete test piece, reaching the glass panel.

effect of the sealant reaching the glass plate below through the concrete test piece. In the picture, we see the back of the glass. The darker the color, the more sealants penetrate the concrete test pieces. Commercially available solvent-based sealants show very high levels of penetration into concrete test parts.
hydroPLIOLITE WL
the color of the sealant is deeper than the commercially available water sealant. We believe this is because
HydroPLIOLITE WL
co-polymer chain dissolves in solvents, rather than being simply softened like conventional polymer emulsions.
can also be used to determine the bonding effect of coatings and concrete test pieces or aging surfaces that do not have the overall properties of newly poured concrete. Cut an "X" in
until the glass panel. Place a piece of Permacel tape #99
section
and pull it off. The more paint you leave on the glass panel, the better the coating will bond to the glass substrate.

3 photo was taken from the back of the glass panel after the tape was removed. Whether it's a commercially available solvent-based sealant or
HydroPLIOLITE WL
sealant, the tape takes away very little paint from the glass substrate.
for commercially available water-based sealants, tape takes away quite a few coatings.
hydroPLIOLITE WL
surface bonding properties are more like solvent-based sealants. This is important because
HydroPLIOLITE WL
sealant not only penetrates through concrete test pieces, but also has sufficient surface bonding strength.

One aspect
problems with EBS technology is
anti-whitening
and hardness. When surfactants are added, they help to form emulsified co-polymer solutions, which can adversely affect the

resistance.

the improvement of paint's whitening resistance. The anti-whitening resistance is raised to an acceptable level by selecting the ingredients and surfactants of the co-polymer. With more hydro-hydroactive polymer components and anti-white surfactants, the anti-whitening resistance of the product is better than that of the commercially available water-based sealant

, second only to the commercially available water-based

. As expected, commercially available solvent-based sealants are very resistant to whitening.

HydroPLIOLITE WL
sealants are very close to the two water-based sealants on the market, slightly lower than commercially available solvent-based sealants, but it is important to remember that solvent-based sealants contain

VOC

HydroPLIOLITE WL
sealants have a

we tested the sealant for two years at a test yard in Akron, Ohio. Figure

Conclusion
EBS
technology has been developed with a solvent-based wet bright sealant appearance, while the
VOC
has a content of only
50g/L
. In addition to appearance, the
test parts of the HydroPLIOLITE WL
sealant have a similar penetration and bonding properties to solvent-based sealants.
HydroPLIOLITE WL
the hardness and whitening resistance of the sealant is comparable to that of a state-of-the-art water-based sealant.
HydroPLIOLITE WL
sealant under two years of aging testing, including two winters in Akron, Ohio, still has a wet, bright appearance and no significant aging of the coating.
