    Deloitte: The development of rooftop solar could meet half of the Netherlands' electricity needs

    Based on an analysis of publicly available data, Deloitte expects that solar panels installed on every suitable roof surface in the Netherlands could meet half of
    the current Dutch electricity needs, despite the cloudy and rainy climate.

    According to Deloitte, the Netherlands has the potential to install solar panels with 892 square kilometers of roof surfaces, equivalent to 125,004 football fields

    At this point, however, only 4.

    to solar PV systems.

    In a best-case scenario, if all available surfaces are used, the roof can accommodate 270 million solar panels, with an output covering 98% of

    Despite this, solar energy accounts for only 1.

    The UK Professional Services Network also calculates that optimal rooftop solar deployment would reduce CO2 emissions associated with electricity production by 63%, reducing total current carbon emissions by 20%.

    In the best-case scenario, the share of renewable energy would reach 16%
    based on current energy consumption and production in the Netherlands.

    Deloitte says installing solar panels on every suitable roof will not only reduce carbon emissions, but also inject up to €100 billion into the Dutch solar industry and create additional jobs

    Regarding the main challenges in this regard, Deloitte noted that the potential of the industry will grow from the current six joules (PJ) to 217 joules

    However, assuming a 40% annual increase, the total number of solar panels installed would still take 10 years to complete

    In addition, Deloitte believes that other challenges facing rooftop solar are government incentive programs, energy grid surpluses and energy storage
