According to Hong Kong's "Oriental Daily" reported on June 27, Denmark is building the world's largest wind turbine, which will be larger
than the London Eye, the London Ferris wheel after assembly.
Its prototype will be installed before the end of this year and trialled
in Bremerhaven, Germany.
If there is enough wind, it can power
more than 10,000 homes.
The wind turbine, called The Adwen Ad8-180, is 180 meters in diameter, has three giant blades about 90 meters long, about 90 meters high, and is 33%
larger than London's landmark London Eye.
If the wind is abundant, up to 8 million watts of electricity
can be produced per year.
After trials in Bremerhaven, Germany, this year, it will become part of an offshore wind farm in France, which is estimated to produce 500 million watts of electricity
.
Due to the large blades of this generator, the road surface will need to be blocked for safe transportation to the destination
.
The manufacturer described the wind turbine as a never-before-seen creation, with additional safety tests on the blades to withstand disasters such as lightning strikes, special materials to protect the surface from rain, and careful aerodynamics
to absorb maximum wind.
