Obesity and type 2diabetesare risk factors forvasculardisease and death in, often leading to weight mutationsIn a recent study published in Diabetes Care, a leading journal of diabetes, researchers used large-scale national cohort data from the Korean population to explore the link between weight variability in people with type 2 diabetes and the risk of major cardiovascular outcomes and deathresearchers recruited 624,237 people with type 2 diabetes who underwent a health check-up with the Korean National Health Insurance System between 2009 and 2010, took three or more weight measurements in the five years since they were selected, and followed up until the end of 2017The researchers used four indices to assess weight variability, including variability independent of the mean (VIM) and a multiple-adjusted Cox scale risk regression analysisrecorded 15,832 cases, 25038 cases and 44,716 cases ofmyocardial infarction(MI),strokeand all-cause deaths, respectivelyWhen the mixed variables were adjusted, there was a correlation between weight variation and increased risk of major cardiovascular outcomesCompared to the risk ratio (HRs) of the lowest quartile array, HRs (95% CI) of the viM's highest quartile group were 1.15 (1.10-1.20), 1.22 (1.18-1.26) and 1.58 (1.53-1.62) for MI, stroke, and total death, respectively it follows that weight variation is associated with an increased risk of MI, stroke and all-cause mortality in people with type 2 diabetes, and may be an indicator of cardiovascular prognosis in such patients Appropriate interventions to maintain weight stability may have a positive impact on the health outcomes of people with type 2 diabetes
