Introduction: New technology for in vitro long-term storage of pancreatic islet cells
    .

Although the management of diabetes has made great progress in the more than 100 years since the discovery of insulin, it can only focus on the control of blood sugar, the prevention/delay of complications, and no fundamental cure
    .

Cells cannot be preserved for a long time: Islet cell transplantation technology faces limitations.
Islet cell transplantation is a diabetes treatment method currently being explored
    .

The process is simple: a population of cells is extracted from a healthy pancreas, transplanted into a recipient, and the cells can begin to make and release insulin on their own
    .

But this approach faces a major limitation.
The number of pancreatic cells from a single donor is often insufficient to support the recipient's full insulin needs, often requiring multiple transplants, repeated surgeries and multiple rounds of strong immunosuppression with health risks
    .

One strategy to solve the above problems is to pool islet cells from multiple donors for a single centralized transplantation, but this strategy is limited by the limitation that islet cells cannot be stored for a long time in vitro
    .

Limitations are expected to be broken! New technology for islet cell freezing/rewarming: Overcoming the problem that islet cells cannot be stored for a long time in vitro The new method, in the context of quality control, realizes the long-term preservation of islet cells in vitro, and is expected to be used for the centralized transplantation of islet cells
    .

➤By using a special cryomesh system, the excess cryoprotective solution is removed, and the pancreatic cells can be rapidly cooled and rewarmed at a rate of tens of thousands of degrees per second, avoiding freezing problems and minimizing toxicity
    .

➤ This new cryopreservation method shows high cell viability and high functionality (90% viability of mouse islet cells and ~87% viability of porcine and human islet cells), even after storage for nine It's still the same months later
    .

➤In mouse studies, within 24-48 hours of receiving the above cell transplantation, the proportion of mice cured of diabetes was as high as 92%
    .

➤ These results suggest that this new cryopreservation protocol may be a powerful means to improve the islet supply chain, enabling the pooling of islet cells from multiple pancreas, thereby improving diabetes outcomes
