Background: Type 2 diabetes affects nearly 540 million people worldwide who are known to suffer from complications such as chronic kidney disease, heart failure, coronary ischemic disease, stroke and peripheral arterial disease, and diabetes-related microvascular disease complications

Background: Type 2 diabetes affects nearly 540 million people worldwide who are known to suffer from complications such as chronic kidney disease, heart failure, coronary ischemic disease, stroke and peripheral arterial disease, and diabetes-related microvascular disease complications

In order to develop health policy that directs resources to where the human and societal burden of type 2 diabetes-related complications is greatest, it is necessary to understand which forms of CVRD most often occur first in previously unaffected low-risk populations, and which forms in It recurs most often thereafter

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to extend this study to detail the incidence of CVRD in contemporary T2DM populations in North America, Europe and other Asian countries, initially excluding CVRD

Methods: Data were obtained from digital health care systems in 12 countries using pre-specified protocols

CONCLUSIONS: Heart failure or chronic kidney disease were the most common CVRD manifestations in people at low risk for T2D in all countries; accounting for the highest proportion of hospital health care costs
    .
These new findings underscore the importance of cardiorenal awareness when planning health care
