Dubai, a large cable manufacturer in the United Arab Emirates, has received an order for 288 kilometers of overhead cables in Iraq as part of
GE's electrification project in Iraq's grid solutions business.
According to reports, the project complements Iraq's energy transition plan to transform the country into a regional energy center
through smart and sustainable grid infrastructure.
Building advanced and reliable electricity supplies across the country as part of Iraq's overall economic development strategy will also support a variety of other sectors, with the World Bank currently estimating that Iraq's economy will grow by 6.

over the next two years.
Dubai Cable participated in GE Renewables' Grid Solutions business tender to design, supply, install, test and commission a 400kV overhead transmission line
connecting Jordan and Qaim regions of Iraq.
This is related to
the EPC's intensification program and the supply of turnkey projects for substations and transmission lines (132kV/400kV).

Iraq has recently faced the challenge
of matching electricity supply with demand.
For example, in 2019, analysts estimated peak demand at 26 GW, 58%
higher than generation capacity.
GE Renewables' grid solutions business signed a contract with Iraq's Ministry of Electricity to fill these deficiencies and bring in Dubai Cable as the main supplier
for the project.
