    Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an important non-protein amino acid with various physiological functions such as lowering blood pressure, promoting sleep, treating epilepsy and detoxification, and has wide application prospects in the fields of food, medicine and health care, and beverage processing


    The microbial physiology and metabolic engineering research group led by Liu Jun, a researcher at the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, used low-value glycerol as a raw material to develop a cell factory for high-efficiency production of GABA Corynebacterium glutamicum through pathway engineering and dynamic metabolic control


    The research was funded by the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China
