Swiss polyurethane foam specialist FoamPartner has developed a range of extremely bottom emission foam products for automotive headliners where processability and design are very demandi.
The new OBoSky® range of foams is based on a patented ether prepolymer technology that combines the advantages of ester-based polyurethane foams with ether-based materia.
The new product features hydrolysis resistance, low emissions and low odor, as well as excellent processability and an extremely homogeneous cell structu.
This technology is specially designed for demanding roof coverin.
Klaus Hellmold, vice president of FoamPartner's Automotive Rolls global business unit, said: "In today's era, consumers are looking for environmentally friendly and stylish interior materials in addition to environmentally friendly drive systems to ensure clean and healthy air in the cab.
The new OBoSky® headliner foam has a very homogeneous structure and small porosity, as well as a surface that facilitates sintered lamination, which also contributes to the weight reduction of the surface materi.
Materials with ether-based prepolymer technology not only achieve superior hydrolysis resistance and long-lasting high mechanical properties, but also significantly reduce volatile organic compounds (VOC) and fogging (FOG) compared to pure ester-based foa.
In VOC and FOG tests according to the VDA 278 and VDA 270 quality standards, OBoSky® showed significantly lower values than the limit values specified in DBL 5450, the strict supply regulation for polyurethane flexible foams by Daimler .
The unique manufacturing process enables foam lengths of up to 120 m, a 50% reduction in bond length compared to common 60 m foam, which means customers can save costs on finished constructi.
