Original title: Eat more walnuts to repair the intestines
ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease, the cause of which is not clear, but the course of the disease is long and repeated. Eating more walnuts can prevent and treat ulcerative colitis, according to a new U.S. study.
mouse experiment with a team of researchers from the University of Connecticut and the University of Texas Agricultural and Industrial University. The researchers fed walnuts for two weeks to mice with ulcerative colitis, which accounted for 14 percent of their daily diet. It was found that the repair function of the colon mucosa in mice that ingested walnuts was significantly enhanced, and the colon damage caused by the onset of ulcerative colitis was much less than in mice that did not consume walnuts. In addition, metabolites in excreta changed after the mice ate walnuts, a phenomenon that may form part of intestinal protection. The study was published in the journal Nutrition.
' study leader, Dr. Daniel Rosenberg, noted that a large number of natural compounds and phytophytosicles in walnuts have been shown to have a variety of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits, and recommends that patients with ulcerative colitis consume 20 to 25 walnuts a day. Next, the team will dig deeper into the beneficial effects of walnuts on other types of inflammatory bowel disease. (Lin Fan)
