epidemiologists at the University of Paris in France have found that the more processed foods people eat, the higher their risk of type 2 diabetes. The researchers analyzed the dietary records of nearly 105,000 French adults with an average age of 43 between 2009 and 2019. The participants completed six 24-hour food diaries over a six-year, 24-hour diet that recorded their intake of more than 3,500 different foods. The results showed that for every 10% increase in consumption of processed foods, the risk of developing diabetes increased by 15%.The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association- Internal Medicine, found that processed foods contain high levels of fat, salt and sugar and low nutritional value, as well as high levels of preservatives, artificial flavors, expanders, food additives, sugars, sweeteners and colorants. All of these factors increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. (Health Journal)
