Ecuador's "Cosmos" reported on September 28 that according to data from the Banana Sales and Export Association, in the first eight months of this year, the export volume of bananas in the first eight months of this year was 230 million boxes (about 18 kg / box), a year-on-year decrease of 9%, and the top three export destinations were the European Union, Russia and the Middle East, accounting for 26%, 21% and 17%
respectively.
In addition to Russia, the decline in exports to many other important export destinations is the main reason for the decline in total exports, while the increase in production costs of fertilizers and paperboard, the high international freight rates, and the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict are also the reasons for the
decline in exports.
Total banana exports this year are expected to fall by at least 8%
from last year.
