Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is working on a new plan to develop smart grids that support the digital transformation strategy adopted by the government, and some Chinese companies have already applied to participate in the sector's development plans
, according to Mohamed Shaker, Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Shaker said the Chinese company's recommendations include innovative solutions in the field of communications and information technology to build a strong, flexible and secure power grid
.
On the recommendation of the National Payments Council, the Ministry adopted a unified digital system for the collection of electricity bills in order to digitize
all public services.
According to Shaker, 415 toll centers belonging to the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) have been automated
.
Therefore, electricity bills will be provided
through all bank branches (branches or ATMs) and online banking.
Shaker said the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has contracted with Siemens to supply the first digital power transformer for the Egyptian market, which is expected to improve the reliability and operational efficiency
of the Kafr El-Sheikh and Zagazig 500/220 KV substations in the delta.
Currently, the power sector is working on improving and developing transmission and distribution networks, including high-voltage substations and control centers
.
Strengthen the national grid to absorb more renewable energy generation projects, reduce power losses from the grid, and promote power interconnection
with neighboring countries.
Shaker said the power sector is implementing reform policies to kick-start the energy digital transformation process, achieve electricity security and sustainability, and improve energy efficiency
.
The new policy will also pave the way for private sector investment in various areas of traditional and renewable energy and smart networks, and improve transparency and management capacity
in the sector.
