    Egypt Telecom and the Government of St.
    Helena (SHG) have signed an agreement to connect
    St.
    Helena Island with Egypt Telecom's submarine cable system through the construction of the Equiano submarine cable system.

    According to reports, this system connects Lisbon (Portugal) to Cape Town in South Africa, and plans to set up branch lines to connect to other African countries

    The 1,140-kilometre feeder line connecting Egypt's telecommunications system with St.
    Helena is expected to be completed and commissioned in early 2022 and will be built by Alcatel Submarine Network

    It is reported that the ocean path survey of the Equiano cable was launched on July 8, 2019 at the landing site in Melkbosstrand (South Africa), and the entire line is designed with 9 branch points, located in the West African country
