Optical transmission equipment supplier Ekinops said it has begun shipping new 100G transponder and multiplexed transponder modules for its Ekinops 360 platform
.
"We will introduce next-generation technologies to make 100G the transport service standard in optical networks," said Franois Xavier Ollivier, Chief Operating Officer of Ekinops, "The new solution is compatible with our existing chassis and provides greater capacity and longer range performance, providing significant cost
savings for our customers.
" ”
Ollivier added: "This builds on our very successful launch of a stand-alone 100G product for exonexus applications in 2012 and allows us to serve the rapidly growing 100G new network and the large number of 100G channels
required for the network.
”
Ekinops said the new module allows existing customers to use the 2RU and 7RU versions of the Ekinops 360 platform to accelerate their 10G network to 100G
by sliding the new module into any 10G card that the 360 relies on.
(The Ekinops360 platform also comes with a 1RU version
.
) For example, a 7RU chassis can be equipped with six 100G transponders or multiplexed transponders, or a combination of both to achieve transmission rates of up to 3 Tbps
in a single rack.
And this multiplexed transponder is to provide a variety of 8G, 10G, 40G flexible combination services
.
The new 100G transponder and multiplexed transponder balances Ekinops' T-chip technology, a programmable architecture
that leverages the company's DynaFEC forward error correction scheme.
