The final wind turbine has reportedly been installed in an Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm three miles off the coast of Aberdeenshire in
the North Sea.
The project installs 11 turbines, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Center, with a total capacity of 93.
2MW.
The power plant has nine 8.
4 MW turbines and two 8.
8 MW turbines, making it the wind farm
with the most powerful turbines in the world.
These turbines will generate enough energy for wind farms to power
70% of Aberdeen's domestic electricity needs.
Once the project generates electricity in the summer, the turbines are expected to offset 134,128 tonnes of CO2
per year.
European offshore wind deployment centers still face legal problems as U.
S.
President Donald Trump believes wind farms will damage the landscape
of his favorite golf course.
Adam Ezzamel, Project Director at Vattenfall, said: "This is an ambitious offshore project
for a project involving industry-first technology and innovative design and construction methods.
Throughout the construction process, the project team and our contractors have encountered and solved many challenges
.
The installation of the final turbine is an important milestone, and with the completion of the array cable installation, we will now enter the final commissioning phase
of the wind farm before moving on to the first power supply this summer.
”
"More importantly, the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre is the first offshore wind project to deploy this foundation on a commercial scale, as well as the first to pair them with the world's most powerful wind turbines
," he added.
