EDF ENGIE and its investment partners have reportedly signed a 25-year power purchase agreement
for two solar projects in Senegal.
The project is being developed by the Government of Senegal and IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, with a total capacity of 60 MW
.
They are part of the country's Scaling Solar program, which aims to quickly mobilize privately funded projects to improve access to electricity
.
Currently, almost half of the country's population does not have access to electricity
.
Among them, ENGIE will develop and manage projects
located in Kaël in the Kaolack region and the Touba region.
"This long-standing public-private partnership with Senegalese authorities and Senelec is ENGIE's first independent power producer project in the country," said the project
leader for ENGIE's West and Central Africa regions.
