A new study focuses on the use of polyetheramine functional graphene oxide to enhance corrosion and weather resistance of water-based epoxy coatings.
the epoxy curing agent polyetheramine (D230) on the surface of graphene oxide (GO) can be steadily dispersed in the water-based curing agent for more than 8 months. Water-based epoxy coatings enhanced by D230-DGO are prepared on carbon steel surfaces
.
Enhanced weather resistance
For 0.2 wt%DGO-enhanced water-based epoxy coatings, after 150 days of immersion in 3.5% NaCl electrolytes, the impedance module at 0.1 Hz remains at 2.2×109 ohms, while the impedance module of pure epoxy coatings is reduced to less than 10 days×107 o. In addition, the addition of DGO enhances the weather resistance of water-based epoxy coatings.
60-day UV aging test, the yellow index of pure epoxy coatings was 1.6 times that of 0.5 wt%DGO/epoxy coatings. The pencil residue hardness of 0.5 wt%DGO/epoxy coating is three levels higher than that of pure epoxy coating.
the study has been published in the Journal of Coating Technology and Research Volume 17 (2020).
