Ericsson has partnered with T-Mobile for 5G quasi-standard testing

The two companies will develop and test specific 5G use cases and services, support T-Mobile in evaluating emerging 5G technologies, drive 5G technology development and standardization, and explore new business opportunities
.
These tests will start
in the second half of 2016.
The latest Ericsson Mobile Market Report predicts that 5G subscribers will reach 150 million by the end of 2021, and mobile operators around the world have been working with Ericsson to develop 5G quasi-standard lab tests and field tests to test advanced technologies
for a variety of use cases and services.
5G networks are expected to significantly reduce latency, support ultra-fast download and upload speeds, improve spectrum efficiency and network reliability, provide fixed access to homes and businesses, and dramatically increase the number of
endpoints that can be connected simultaneously.
Neville Ray, CTO of T-Mobile USA, said they are excited to continue their technical collaboration with Ericsson to expand 5G capabilities from the lab to field testing

T-Mobile now offers the fastest 4G LTE network in the Americas, leveraging our existing LTE technology and spectrum investment for 5G field testing, and once 5G-enabled consumer smartphones and related standards are available after 2020, we will be directly on the road to
