According to the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA), at the request of the European Commission, the European Food Safety Agency issued an opinion on the exposure risk assessment of annatto extracts as food additives Carmine tree orange is a kind of edible natural yellow orange pigment extracted from mahogany seeds The main pigment components are Bixin and norbixin According to the evaluation of the EU expert group, the dietary exposure of mahogany is lower than the ADI value for all people, but for children, at the highest level, the dietary exposure will exceed the ADI value Some of the original reports are as follows: Following a request for technical assistance, EFSA carried out an exposure assessment of the colouring principles Bixin and norbixin of the food colony annex extract (E160B), from its use as a food addition, takingin to account new advanced uses and use levels In 2016, the EFSA Panel on Food Additives and Nutrient Sources added to Food(ANS)adopted a scientific opinion on the safety of annatto extracts(E 160b)as a food additive In that opinion, the Panel concluded that the toxicological database was sufficient to derive an acceptable daily intake(ADI)of 6 mg bixin/kg body weight(bw)per day and an ADI of 0.3 mg norbixin/kg bw per day.
