Ukraine's Agroportal network on December 23 quoted UkrAgroConsult as saying that the European Commission cut its corn import forecast in December to 19 million tonnes from 21m tonnes in November, unexpectedly raising its own output by 2.44m tonnes to 62.54m tonnes.
mainly due to higher production in Italy (+500,000 tonnes), Croatia (+200,000 tonnes), Bulgaria (+100,000 tonnes) and Romania (+1.6 million tonnes).
current import forecasts are still higher than they were in 2019/20 (18.4m tonnes), but the EU's import rate lags behind last year's.
fell 23 per cent to 7.6 million tonnes between July 1 and December 13 this year.
imports from Ukraine fell 57 per cent to 1.8 million tonnes.
, EU imports fell 8.5 per cent to 4.3m tonnes because of high prices in Brazil, a big exporter.
