European Commission First Vice President Frans Timmermans said on Monday that Poland needed to reduce its use of coal, but the EU should help it complete its energy transition

"We hope to be able to develop a transition plan for Polish workers
.
We have to have a plan and there has to be a lot of European money," Timmermans told
the Polish Trade Union Association.
"The EU should come up with a credible plan, especially to help Poland and Slovakia transition
away from coal.

Poland, Europe's worst air pollution region, has seen opposition leaders say the country should eliminate the use of
coal to heat homes within 10 years.
