Three plastics industry groups have launched a new platform called Polyolefin Circular Economy to work together to advance packaging recycling

The group argues that a business-as-usual approach falls short of today's challenging goal of recycling and reusing
55% of plastic packaging by 2025.

The new group highlighted a range of policies, with a focus on: development guidelines and evaluation protocols for packaging design based on circular economy principles; innovative ways to increase the recyclability of rigid/flexible packaging; EU quality standards for plastic types, uniform test methods for recycled plastics and specific operations for recycling; Innovation and growth in end-market drives demand for recycled plastics; promoting innovation to improve mechanical recycling, processing technologies and the reuse of materials; Promote research and development of new technologies to convert non-mechanically recyclable plastics into raw materials
for production.
