    Experts from the Institute of Feed of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences put forward research and application opinions on antibiotic alternatives in broiler production

    Recently, the Poultry Nutrition and Feed Innovation Team of the Feed Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences systematically analyzed the research progress of different feed additives as antibiotic substitutes for broiler feeding, and proposed that organic acids, probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes and other additives can improve the production performance of broiler chickens, reduce the death rate and improve the intestinal flora from the aspects of the use scenarios, action routes and improvement effects of feed additives, providing a reference
    for the alternative use of antibiotics in broiler production.

    The worldwide ban on feed antibiotics has promoted the use of Chinese herbal medicines, organic acids, prebiotics, probiotics and feed enzymes in broiler production, and these antibiotic alternatives do not pose a harm
    to human health.
    Studies and applications have shown that they can enhance the intestinal health of broilers, increase broiler weight, average daily weight gain, carcass weight, feed conversion rate, the main role of alternative feed additives include immunomodulatory, enhance digestion, improve nutrient utilization, increase nutrient absorption, antibacterial and antioxidant activity, intestinal barrier function or improve intestinal health and regulate the host intestinal flora
    .
    These different modes of action suggest that there may be syncytial, antagonistic, synergistic, or adversarial effects between substitutes or other feed nutrients
    .
    Therefore, it is recommended to strongly promote the use of alternative green feed additives in broiler production, and further research is needed on the application of compound additives, secondary elements, and interaction effects, utilization efficiency and inclusiveness
    with dietary nutrients.
