    Facebook recently announced that Singapore's Sembcorp Industries signed a power purchase agreement for a 50 MW solar project for a period of 20 years
    .

    Under the deal, a new data center
    will also be built in Singapore.
    The installations, which will be spread across 900 roofs, began this year and are expected to be completed
    by 2020.
    Facebook has similar projects around the world, but this is its first renewable energy project
    in Asia.

    "As our world moves towards renewable and low-carbon energy, there is an increasing demand for solutions that enable businesses to grow
    while managing their impact on the environment," said the President and CEO of Sembcorp Industries, Singapore.
    Sembcorp is actively working with companies to support them in achieving this dual goal
    .

    Facebook's head of global energy said the deal is the first step in providing 100 percent renewable energy for its Singapore operations, including a new data center, where the company hopes to meet global targets
    by 2020.

    Sembcorp said it has accumulated a portfolio of renewable energy projects
    totaling 2.
    5GW in Singapore, India and China.
