Finnish studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids help prevent diabetes

A study by the University of Eastern Finland found that omega-3 fatty acids found in fish can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, according to the Associated Press.study, conducted by Associate Professor Virtanen and involved 2,212 Finnish men between the ages of 42 and 60 with no history of type 2 diabetes, took 20 years.researchers regularly measured participants' levels of serum meth-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and blood sugar indicators on an empty stomach and 2 hours after meals after the study began, and tracked their use of diabetes drugs.study showed that a quarter of people with the highest levels of mega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids had a 33 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than the lowest-content quarter.Virtanen believes that eating fish rich in long-chain omega-3s, such as salmon, rainbow trout and white salmon, at least twice a week can help prevent type 2 diabetes. He also recommends that people control their weight and gain exercise to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
