an international team that published a paper in the British journal Nature Genetics says they have discovered for the first time eight genes linked to anorexia errogen, which could help to better understand the cause and find a cure.
anorexia is an eating disorder in which the patient deliberately causes his weight to be significantly lower than normal through dieting and other means, which can lead to malnutrition, metabolic and endocrine disorders, and even life-threatening consequences.
A team of researchers from Australia, Sweden, Denmark and the United States analyzed the genomes of more than 16,000 people with anorexia and compared them with the genomes of more than 50,000 others, resulting in the first discovery of eight genes associated with anorexia erration.
analysis showed that the genes associated with anorexia orexia overlapped with those associated with mental illness such as obsessive compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety disorder, as well as those affecting metabolism and body fat.
Martin, a professor at the Berghofer Institute of Medicine in Australia who was involved in the study, said it was the first gene researchers had found to be associated with anorexia erratives, and that hundreds more could yet be discovered. (Source: Xinhua News Agency)
