Brain trauma (TBI) can trigger a complex series of inflammatory reactions that can lead to neuron cell death and neurological dysfunction. The neurological dysfunction caused by TBI is caused by primary and secondary brain injury. Primary damage occurs in the early stages of TBI and is caused by the displacement of the physical structure of the brain. Secondary injury is the leading cause of death and disability in patients, usually after primary injury, and may involve serious cascading events such as inflammatory cell necrosis and apoptosis, increased oxidative stress, cell calcium imbalance and mitochondrial dysfunction. TBI is usually treated clinically, but drugs that protect nerve cells and inhibit nerve cell death do not have satisfactory therapeutic results. Therefore, it is important to further explore the pathogenesis of TBI and develop effective drugs to improve the clinical treatment of TBI.
