Pharmaceutical Network October 22 - Recently, the General Division of the State Drug Administration issued a notice on the implementation of the Mercury Minamata Convention related matters, drug regulatory comprehensive equipment note (2020) No. 95.
In accordance with Proclamation No. 38 issued by the former Ministry of Environmental Protection in 2017 in association with the relevant ministries, the Minamata Convention on Mercury entered into force in China on 16 August 2017, which clearly prohibits the production of mercury-containing thermometers and mercury-containing blood pressure meters as of 1 January 2026. The
" notice requires that mercury-containing thermometers and mercury-containing blood pressure meter products that have obtained a medical device registration certificate shall remain valid for the duration of the certificate;
In addition, if a mercury thermometer and mercury-containing blood pressure meter products that have been accepted by a medical device continue to be reviewed and approved in accordance with a medical device and are approved for registration, a medical device registration certificate shall be issued, limiting the validity of the registration certificate to not exceed December 31, 2025.
