Genome editing is a new technology for site-specific modification of the genome, which has unlimited potential in basic research, gene therapy, and crop improvement

This review first summarizes the natural CRISPR-Cas nucleases currently used in genome editing, and focuses on introducing the most widely used type II nuclease Cas9, V type nuclease Cas12, and a series of corresponding series that can broaden the target range.

This work was funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Pilot Project A, the Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program, and the Young Talents Support Project of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology
