Background and target In the United States, the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) is increasing among people under the age of 50, but the risk factors associated with early oncercies CRC (EOCRC) have not been widely studied.
, the study hopes to look at risk factors in a large sample of people.
method researchers conducted a case-control study of U.S. veterans aged 18 to 49 who under had colonoscopy between 1999 and 2014.
after three years of follow-up, veterans without CRC at the time of the baseline colonoscopy were identified as control groups.
collected data on age, gender, race/ethnicity, body weight, body mass index (BMI), diabetes, smoking status and aspirin use.
a multi-factor regression analysis.
results This study included 651 EOCRC cases and 67,416 controlled cases.
age is 45.3 years and 82.3 per cent for men.
compared to the control group, a higher proportion of cases were older, male, smoker, non-aspirin user, and lower BMI (P .lt;.05).
the adjusted analysis, age and male sex were significantly associated with increased risk of EOCRC, while aspirin use and overweight or obesity (as opposed to normal BMI) were significantly associated with a decrease in EEOCRC risk.
post-mortem analysis, colonoscopy was more likely to lose 5 kg or more in weight in the first 5 years with ECRC (OR:2.23; 95% CI: 1.76-2.83).
this study found a significant correlation between age and male sex and increased risk of EOCRC, while aspirin use was significantly associated with reduced risk.
these factors can also affect the risk of CRC seizures after age 50.
weight loss may be an early clinical sign of ECRC.
