GE Renewable Energy said today it will open a new offshore wind farm and an operations and development center in China's Guangdong province as it seeks to capitalize on offshore wind growth
    in the region.

The new plant will be part of
the Jieyang Offshore Wind Power Industrial Park in Guangdong.
GE said it would develop an offshore wind cluster there, staffed with industry-related suppliers to serve
    domestic and regional projects.

The new plant in Jieyang will exclusively supply offshore wind projects in the Chinese region, while the assembly plant in Saint-Nazaire, France, will continue to support all other international markets
    .

The company expects construction to begin by the end of the year and be completed
    in 2021.
Assembly production is scheduled to begin
in the second half of 2021.

GE will also establish a new operations and development center in Guangzhou to conduct research and development activities, while also serving as the regional sales and project management office
for the company's offshore wind business.

"China is poised to become one of the largest offshore wind markets in the world, with 66 GW of offshore wind capacity expected to be built in Guangdong by 2030 alone according to Guangdong's offshore development master plan," said
John Lavelle, CEO of GE Renewable Energy Offshore Wind.
