the shell of most snails in the world curls to the right, but its workings remain unsolt. Recently, researchers discovered a gene that allows freshwater snail shells to produce right curls.
the first time scientists have successfully used the gene-editing CRISPR tool on snails. They mutated a gene called Lsdia1, which was thought to be linked to shell curling in earlier studies. The researchers report in the journal Development that changes in the crust can be seen as early as embryonic times, and that absoppations without a functional version of the gene coil to the left.
it is not clear how Lsdia1 alone controls the entanglement of the enclosure. Scientists believe it may encode a special protein that is involved in regulating the cell's internal bones, although more tests are needed later. (Source: Cheng Weijia, China Science Journal)
