    In this study, the team performed the first airway transcriptome association study (TWAS) in childhood and adult-onset asthma


    The team then applied these models to genetic data from more than 300,000 participants in the UK Biobank


    In particular, the researchers identified genetic changes in a gene that forms mucus structures (MUC5AC) and another gene that directs the production of mucus-secreting cells (FOXA3)


    The research was primarily funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
