Genetic testing may be more effective than blood testing in detecting cardiovascular diseases

The ABO gene contains three main alleles, which encode different antigens, namely A, B, and O.

Recently, a research report entitled "Characterization of the human ABO genotypes and their association to common inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases in the UK Biobank" was published in the international journal American Journal of Hematology, from Uppsala University and other institutions.

Researcher Julia Hoglund said that the huge difference in the risk of a person’s thrombosis depends on whether they have one or two gene mutations in the A, AB, or B blood type.

The results of this study indicate that a person’s genetic mutations inherited from their parents may affect their risk of disease.

The results come from the regression analysis of all diseases, in which ABO blood type has a significant contribution to the correlation

The researchers said that since both type A and type B cover up the O type gene, it cannot be detected in routine blood tests.

The findings of this article show that by determining the blood type and blood type inheritance of patients as standards, researchers may be able to detect and start treatment of related diseases in the early stages of the disease, which may prevent or slow down the occurrence of serious complications in patients
