On January 28, the reporter learned from the Institute of Biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences that researchers such as Wang Zhixing and Wang Xujing analyzed the effects of multigene overlays on corn transcription groups and metabolic groups, and the paper was recently published in Plant Journal.
gene overlay refers to the polymerization of two or more outer genes present in different GM plants by breeding methods after they are transferred to the outer gene in genetically modified crops.
, the effect assessment of gene superposition has become an important issue in the safety assessment of genetically modified crops.
Wang Zhixing research group to China's independent research and development of genetically modified corn 12-5 and IE034 as research materials, 12-5 is Zhejiang University research and development of the gene containing cry1Ab/2Aj and G10-epsps gene insect-resistant herbicide corn, IE034 is the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Crop Science Research Institute research and development of the cry1Ie gene anti-worm corn.
the group cross-breeded the two genetically modified corn materials, compared the differences between the transcription and metabolic spectrum of the genetically modified hybrid corn 12-5 x IE034 and the two parent-genetically modified corns, as well as the six conventional corn varieties. The results of the
showed that the amount of gene expression and metabolites caused by the genetically modified corn breeding complex (superposition) was within the range of variation between conventional corn varieties compared with gm plants without superposition and non-gMO plants.
This also shows that although genetically modified corn brings genes that did not exist in corn, there are more genetic differences in the number of non-GMO varieties, and GM did not cause more unexpected changes in the genome and transcription group.
the researchers further explain that the difference between the transcription group and the metabolic group between genetically modified corn and non-GMO is not even great eras of the different non-GMO varieties.
