The federal government, coastal states and transmission system operators have signed a joint agreement to increase Germany's offshore wind target from 15 GW to 20 GW
    by 2030.

According to the agreement, the parties will commit to working closely together to achieve wind energy expansion
in the German North Sea and Baltic Sea.

The agreement is said to provide specific milestones and timelines for all parties involved to ensure that the necessary planning and approval steps and the construction of transmission lines and offshore wind farms go hand in hand
    .

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) will continue to update the development plan for the area and identify the areas
needed to increase capacity by the end of the year.

The Federal Network Administration (BNetzA) has identified the transmission lines
needed to connect these new wind farms in its 2019 Network Development Plan.

The coastal states will complete the approval process in a timely manner, and transmission system operators including TenneT, 50Hertz and Amprion will start offshore transmission line construction in time so that electricity from future wind farms can be transported
    immediately.

The agreement also implements the requirements of the 2030 Climate Protection Plan of October 2019, with binding agreements with affected coastal states and transmission system operators, a prerequisite for raising the offshore target to 20 GW
    .

In the future, BSH said, the project timeline will be reviewed regularly in order to detect delays early and take appropriate measures
