    Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are a rising star with promising future prospects for carbon materials, usually referring to graphene quantum dots, graphene oxide quantum dots, partially reduced graphene oxide quantum dots and a large class of similar structural properties The general term for the same carbonaceous fluorescent materials and their derivativ.


    Recently, researchers from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry , Chinese Academy of Sciences, inspired by the structure of natural phenolic antioxidants, constructed a type of graphene quantum dots (h-GQDs) functionalized with phenol groups , which have the ability to efficiently remove ROS and enrich the kidne.


     

    Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a transient loss of renal function caused by ischemia, inflammatory diseases or nephrotoxici.


    Therefore, researcher Ren Jinsong and researcher Qu Xiaogang were inspired by the principle of natural phenol antioxidants, and imagined that the phenolic groups on the graphene structure could act as H atom donors for ROS trapping, and related intermediate free radicals could pass through remote.


    h-GQDs show super high antioxidant activity and can eliminate a variety of cytotoxic R.


    This research provides a new method for designing a GQD-based high-efficiency antioxidant platform through engineered surface oxidation groups , and further expands the wide biological applications of graphene quantum dots under various physiological and pathological conditio.
