As early as January 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution", proposing that by 2025, the management system for the production, circulation, consumption, recycling and disposal of plastic products will be basically established, and diversified.

Li Jinhui, a tenured professor at the School of Environment of Tsinghua University and executive director of the Basel Convention Asia-Pacific Regional Center, said that the global plastics industry has developed rapidly, with a cumulative production of more than 10 billion tons of plastic and more than 7 billion tons of plastic waste

Industry insiders believe that in terms of food packaging, the use of natural resources can be reduced by improving the design structure, lightweight design, material recycling, etc.

Wang Zhanjie, chairman of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, said that the plastics industry is large in volume, wide in scope, fast in innovation, and under great pressure on environmental protection.

Plastic recycling industry ushered in development opportunities

The National Development and Reform Commission and other seven ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Notice on Printing and Distributing the List of Key Cities for the Construction of Waste and Used Materials Recycling System", and identified 60 key cities in the country, including Beijing and Tianjin, for the construction of waste and used materials recycling system

Gao Bao, deputy director of the Solid Waste Division of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that the development of China's waste plastic recycling industry has ushered in good opportunities.

Shanghai recently issued the "Shanghai Implementation Opinions on Completely Accurately Implementing the New Development Concept and Doing a Good Job in Carbon Neutralization", proposing to establish and improve the whole process of source reduction, fine classification, efficient utilization, and recycling.

The recently released "Shanghai Action Plan for Aiming at New Tracks to Promote the Development of Green and Low-Carbon Industries" also proposes to improve the utilization of renewable resources
