As reported by La Tercera, full-service provider Grupo GTD has announced plans to deploy submarine cables off the coast of Chile to improve connectivity
    .

The project, called Prat, will span 3,500 kilometers and connect Arica with Puerto Montt via Iquique, Antofagasta, La Serena, Valparaiso and Talcahuano, with an initial capacity of 4Tbps
    .

In recent years, Grupo GTD has continued to expand into the Chilean market
    through mergers and acquisitions.
In April 2017, Chilean telecom operator Grupo GTD acquired fiber optic network provider Netline Peru
    .
Grupo GTD cited the improving economic situation as an important factor
in its decision to acquire the company.

Netline's fiber optic network, most of which is used by SMEs and enterprises, covers several cities
such as Arequipa, Lima and Trujillo.

In March, Grupo GTD arranged to acquire its data center in Santiago, Chile, which is owned
    by department store chain Falabella.
Following the acquisition, Falabella will continue to serve as a customer of the data center, signing a 20-year data center services contract
    .

Alberto Bezanilla, general manager of Grupo Gtd, said the deal will allow the company not only to strengthen relationships with its largest customers, but also to expand its cloud and hosting offerings
    in the region.
The company also has two other data centers
    in Peru and Chile.
