    Liu Jinsong's research group of the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, found that the new coronavirus primer enzyme nsp8 can undergo liquid-liquid phase separation in solution and cells, and the phase separation characteristics of nsp8 are related
    to the polymerization state.


    More and more studies have found that liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) is an important mechanism for
    the formation of membraneless organelles and the improvement of the efficiency of intracellular biochemical reactions.


    In order to study the phase separation characteristics of nsp8, the research group purified the dimer and tetramer of nsp8, and further analysis found that the stability of these two states was weakened
    with the decrease of salt concentration in buffer.


    This study provides a basis
    for the study of the molecular mechanism of nsp8-catalyzed primer synthesis and the research and development of anti-coronavirus drugs.
