Stephen Hawking, the world's leading master of physics and astronomy, warned on the 20th that if humans are to survive, they must find a new home in space between 200 and 500 years.
Hawking reiterated the warning that humans would become extinct at the Starmus Festival, which celebrates science and art in Trondheim, Norway, the Daily Mail of London reported.
Hawking also begs U.S. President Donald Trump, saying, "I'm not going to deny the importance of fighting climate change and global warming, unlike Trump, who may have just made the worst and wrong decision in the world about climate change."
Hawking called on the world's major powers to send astronauts to the moon by 2020 to rekindle space exploration.
Hawking said powers should build a lunar base within 30 years and send people to Mars by 2025, the BBC reported.
Diffusion into space will make a complete difference to the future of mankind, and I hope that it will unite competing nations under a single goal to face the common challenges of all of us," he said.
Hawking also showed his desire that a nuclear fusion spacecraft powered by light or other forms of energy would bring humans to their new homes.
Hawking said at the event that there are about 1,000 stars within 30 light-years of Earth.
is probably the only way we can save ourselves, and I am convinced that humanity must leave the earth," he said.
even though only 1% of the stars are about the size of Earth, there are still 10 new worlds to choose from.
