Hong Kong Gene editing has shown great potential in the treatment of familial Alzheimer’s disease and other diseases caused by genetic mutations.
This new gene editing technology was developed by a team led by the Vice President of the University of Science and Technology Ye Yuru
Studies have found that this technology can effectively destroy the familial Alzheimer's disease gene mutation in the Alzheimer's disease transgenic mouse model, and improve the pathological symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in the whole brain
Genetically modified The study also found that 6 months after Alzheimer's disease transgenic mice were treated with this technology, the amyloid plaques in their brains believed to cause Alzheimer's neurodegenerative disease remained low
Genetically modified Ye Yuru, who is also the director of the State Key Laboratory of Macromolecular Neuroscience, said that this research has achieved efficient whole-brain gene editing for the first time, and effectively improved the pathological symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease in the whole brain, which will help promote the development of related diseases.
This study was undertaken by a team of HKUST, California Institute of Technology and the Chinese Kexue Yuan Institute of Advanced Technology Shenzhen personnel composition
