In all eukaryotes, genetic material is stored in the nucleus in the form of DNA

By analyzing the speed movement of the ribosome in yeast cells, a team from the University of Geneva successfully proved that the speed of protein synthesis is modified by regulatory factors that modulate the translation of messenger ribonucleic acid into protein

“We already know that the rate of protein production changes as needed: sometimes fast, sometimes slow,” explains Martine Collart, a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Medicine at the UNIGE School of Medicine, who led the research.

    Anatomy of Ribosomes

In order to understand this process, scientists used a very innovative but still unknown technique: ribosomal mapping

Scientists have observed the speed and dynamics of protein production in natural yeast cells and genetically modified yeast to determine possible differences depending on the genetic code

This is the speed controlled by the genetic code

Therefore, at the precise moment of protein synthesis, it is not a factor related to the ribosome, which slows down the speed of the ribosome in the translation process by compressing RNA and new proteins
