The researchers retrospectively included patients with ulcerative colitis with generalized colitis in clinical remission and followed up for a period of 2 years.

A total of 91 CER patients and 54 SS patients were included in this study, and 63 relapses (47 mild and 16 severe) occurred in the end.

Therefore, the author concludes that as long as endoscopic remission is obtained in the proximal colon, residual distal colon inflammation is not a major risk factor for recurrence.
