BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Eating processed foods is known to be harmful to health, and in recent years , "ultra-processed food" has emerged, i.e. in addition to oil, salt and
fat
, some industrial materials, such as
proseptic
agents, adhesives and
sweeteners
. Studies in France and Spain have found that people who eat large quantities of processed foods, including
breakfast
cereals
,
ice creams
and ready-to-eat foods, have a significantly higher risk of heart disease, stroke and early death.
Researchers at the University of Paris reportedly published a study in the British Medical Journal that tracked data from more than 105,000 people over a five-year period and found a 10 percentage point increase in the amount of super-processed food ingested and a 12 percent increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Tuvier, a member of the public health team, explained that while there was no evidence of a causal link, there was ample evidence that public health authorities should warn people to avoid eating such foods.
The University of Navarre in Spain, also published a report in the British Medical Journal, found that between 1999 and 2014, the team monitored the eating habits and health of nearly 20,000 people in the area and found that those who ate more than four over-processed foods a day had a 62 per cent higher mortality rate than those who ate less than two, while the risk of death increased by 18 per cent for each extra over-processed food.
